To start off the spring semester, today Student Life set up an information table in the bookstore lobby of the HS building to inform students about various activities they could get involved in on campus.

Surayya Johnson, the Student Life Director for the Germantown campus, was there and asked students to sign up for text message updates about Student Life events. The service is free, and the text frequency is about once a week. To sign up and receive updates, text “Germantown” to 76626.

There were also various flyers with information about upcoming Student Life events and the various clubs at the Germantown campus. Among the events promoted were a bus trip to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, an alternative spring break trip to work with Habitat for Humanity, and a volunteer fair occurring next month. For more information about these events and others, visit the Office of Student Life in the SA building.

Once students signed up for the texting service, they were allowed to take a Student Life shirt, bag, or pen. There was also candy. After two hours, at least 40 students had signed up for the texting service. Student Life plans to hold more events like this one over the coming weeks.

Next Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 to 1, Club Rush will take place in the bookstore lobby, where students can learn about all the clubs offered in Germantown and sign up to join the ones they’re interested in. The volunteer fair will be held in HT216 on February 6th, from 11 to 1.
