Great Films for Free on the Germantown Campus
By: Silvia Escobar
Film buffs can see free films on campus! Since 2009, the Office of Student Life has sponsored free films for the college community through the Montgomery College-Germantown Film Series. In addition to watching a great film, students are encouraged to stay for an after-the-movie discussion led by a member of the Germantown faculty.
Films range from documentary to more commercial, feature films. Co-sponsored by other departments on campus, faculty members typically choose films because of their relevance to an important theme or genre. Films this semester have included “Koran by Heart”(presented by World Languages Department and MC Libraries), “Prince Among Slaves” (presented by the History Department), and “The Secret of Kells” (presented by the Art Department).
Don’t Miss These Upcoming Films (6:00-8:00 p.m.) :
Thursday, April 25 – HT 216 “Waiting for Superman”
Economics Department
Discussion led by Prof. Bruce Madariaga
Tuesday, April 30 – HT216 “La Promise” (shown in French with English subtitles)
World Languages Dept.
Discussion led by Prof. Caren Colley-Trowbridge
In addition to free films and free discussion, students are often treated to free popcorn by the Student Life Office and often can receive extra credit for attending the program from their instructors. A great night out and a great deal!
